Prof. B.P. Pundir

Brief Introduction

Dr. B. P. Pundir is a former Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT, Kanpur, India.

Dr B. P. Pundir holds B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Roorkee, MS (Mech.) from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, and Ph.D. from the University of Roorkee. Before joining IIT Kanpur in 1998, he was Senior Deputy Director at the Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun and had R&D experience of 27 years in the area of IC Engines, Engine Combustion, Petroleum and Alternative Fuels, Vehicle Emissions and Engine Development. From 1996 to 1998 he worked as General Manager (R & D) at LML Ltd., Kanpur. He has been an international Environmental and Alternative Fuel Consultant for World Bank and Asian Development Bank funded Projects in Bangladesh and Tanzania.

Dr. Pundir has been member of National Expert Committees of the Ministry of Environment, Government of India on Vehicle Emissions to formulate Indian Vehicle Emission Standards for the years 1990 - 2000 and for portable generator sets. Prof Pundir prepared detailed state of the art reports for the Ministry of Environment, Government of India, on vehicle emissions and control strategy for India. He is a Member of Standing Committee of CPCB, Ministry of Environment on Emission Standards for gensets. He has been Convenor, BIS Gasoline Fuels Sub-Committee. He is Member of SAE International and Combustion Institute.

He has authored two books on IC Engines, Combustion and Emissions, and published and presented more than 125 papers in international and national journals and conferences.
